Overview

Thank you for reading our information sheet for the Family Law Council’s survey on the rights of children and young people in Australia’s family law system.

The Family Law Council is an expert advisory body which provides advice and recommendations to the Attorney-General either of its own motion or at the Attorney-General’s request on family law matters.

In their June 2022 meeting, the Family Law Council resolved to carry out a stakeholder survey on the health and operation of the family law system. Responses to this survey will help the council identify areas of improvement in Australia’s family law system regarding the rights of children and young people.

Why we are consulting

This survey is being carried out by the Family Law Council to understand:

  1. The extent to which the family law system upholds the rights of children and young people under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
  2. Whether or not particular parts of the family law system manage the participation of children and young people effectively.
  3. What, if any, changes would improve the way the family law system upholds the rights of children and young people?

Who we want to hear from

All professionals working in the family law system sector are invited to participate in this survey. Participation will require responding to a range of survey questions that will help us understand your views on how the family law system operates with regard to the rights of children and young people.

Participation in this survey is voluntary. It will take about 15 minutes to complete.
