Its a bit hypocritcal if you dont consult on open government

What is one problem relating to public participation and engagement that is arising, and what is the cause?

Polarisation of political discourse is making any nuanced conversations difficult.

What is a specific action to enhance public participation that would advance one or more of the open government principles (transparency, inclusive participation, accountability, innovation and ambition) over the next 2 years?

Improve FoI rules and remove existing loopholes.

How could the impact of improved public participation be measured?

Sentiment analysis of public commentary, quantitative assessments of submissions and number of public consultations undertaken.

What is your opinion of this theme?
They have such an important role in our lives that integrity is important. I do notice that focus on the extractive industries has been removed and the previous commitments to improving the behaviour of extractive industries have not been fulfilled.

What is one problem relating to integrity in government and the corporate sector that is arising, and what is the cause?

The transition for a pluralist to a corporatist approach in managing the sector. The role of donations in politics hampering real reform in corporate sector regulation and integrity.

What is a specific action to enhance integrity that would advance one or more of the open government principles (transparency, inclusive participation, accountability, innovation and ambition) over the next 2 years?

Improve whistleblower legislation, dropping current prosecutions of whistleblowers. Actual application of current legislation to improve board transparency. Improving the pay and conditions of regulators so they are now cowled into not acting out of fear of not being offered a higher paid job in the companies they regulate.

How could the impact of improved integrity be measured?

Improved transparency actions (publishing more data) release of corporate governance documents

What is one problem relating to strengthening democracy that is arising, and what is the cause?

A breakdown in power between the executive, legislature and judiciary. Over the past 40 years the Executive has amassed a lot of power at the expense of the other 2 branches of government. THe challenge is that it will take the executive to put forward changes that disempower itself and empower the legislature and the judiciary.

Increased parliamentary and judicial oversight.

decrease in FoI backlog, increased number of independent overview activities of the excutive

put some marketing costs behind it. Have ministers go out and do media about it
